Dr. Appt.

Yesterday I went to the doctor with Tobie for her ultrasound. What a treat. I got to see our little grandson. Soooo cute. He was blowing bubbles and blinking his eyes. I could see hair on the back of his little head. I don't think he liked the technician poking him so much, Tobie said he was kicking back. He kept hiding his face so we didn't get a really good look but what a sweetie. I wish I had pictures to post. Tobie feels that she only has a few more weeks. She has a appt. next week. I'll let you know more.

~**~**~**~**~Garden Time~**~**~**~**~

I can feel Spring! She is on her way- she makes my nose twitch. I breathe easier and feel better. And for some reason my heart and hands yearns to dig in the earth.

This year I want to put in a veggie garden. Oh Joy! I have started a compost pile out back behind the shed. Ron has helped me and we have been working on it all winter.

I did have one small issue.... my hubby was having a big problem getting excited about the digging part. Finally I found a solution to the digging. It's called Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. You can google his website and learn all about it. The garden/s are set up in wooden frames 3'x3' or 4'x4' so on. These can be set right on the ground and filled with a mixture of compost, coarse vermiculite and peat moss. On top is placed a grid work dividing the area into square foot areas.

This method solved several of my dilemmas:

1. No digging involved.
2. We can grow what we need instead of ending up having a ton of ripe veggies all at the same time.
3.Only a small area is use and these plots can be scattered around the yard, flat on the ground or elevated on a table or saw horses.

4. Watering can be by drip hose or by using plastic water bottles filled with water and with small pin holes on one side. These are laid hole side down and will slowly water the plants.

Other things I am looking into are worm farms (helps with composting) and raising a few chickens for eggs. Whee!!
